There were lots of linear styles at New York Fashion Week. Sometimes a simple line is all it takes to add that extra something. Go minimal with a side part or maximize it with a grid or lattice look. Spring/ Summer 2015.
This urban-inspired look of drips, splatters, and a plethora of color add the perfect edge to a spring manicure. Get a tutorial for this look here.
Showing a little skin is definitely popular in the spring and summer months. If you feel like you still need to work on your waistline a bit, you can take the skin-baring trend to your nails instead by leaving clear space in the design. This peek-a-boo effect is known as negative space.
Try a French, solid color, nail art or a little bling -- but whatever you do, make sure you’re maintaining your feet. After months of being stuffed in socks it’s time to break out the open-toed shoes, so schedule a pedicure.

As a woman, there are a number of ways you can display your style. Be it a new haircut, a wardrobe update, a fabulous jewelry find -- women aren’t afraid to let their personality shine. There’s a pride in displaying who you are for the world to see.
One of the more popular ways of putting yourself and your style out there has been through nail art and design. Manicures have become the new “IT” accessory for the modern stylish woman. You can shape your nails into long talons to emulate a puuurfect feline claw or stack enough rhinestones on each nail to rival a Disco ball. The possibilities with nail art are endless and, lately, women are all about it.

As someone who deals with nail polish daily as the editor of Nails Magazine, it takes a lot for a lacquer to impress me.
But when in need of a quick nail pick me up, I am always open to trying new nail products. I decided to polish my nails mid-week with the chrome-like Charismatic color from Poshinality. I was instantly impressed with the application of the polish. The liquid silver slid on smoothly and covered my nail nicely with a thick coat. It dried quickly and the second coat went on just as nicely. Ladies love a good quick drying polish! I liked that this silvery color isn’t too sheer either. It has the ideal opacity to be worn alone or topped off with nail art.
The product line is a marriage of two words: polish + personality. Each color in the collection is named for a personality trait or fashion style. There is “Hipster”, “Adventure Seeker” and “The Quiet Type” along with “Outspoken”, “Go Getter” and “Open Minded.” Poshinality encourages it’s fans to not only pick a color, but to express who they are. Since I am all about self-expression and I work in an industry that supports having your own sense of style, I admire this brand for encouraging women to be confident in their own skin. Nail polish is more than something “pretty”, it’s a tool you can use to express your creativity.
Poshinality also supports the beauty of giving: raising awareness for issues like domestic violence, sex trafficking, and even clean water initiatives. They donate a portion of their revenue to social causes and campaigns that seek long-term change. If you’re going to stock up on polish, you might as well choose one that supports a good cause! After reading up on the brand, I discovered that I like this polish even more than I thought. I love that the majority of colors are “five-free” (free of DBP, toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin and camphor), and I feel like it’s rare to see a nail polish brand that gives back to so many social causes and does not test its products on animals.

If you're in LA, it's getting warmer and you can feel spring coming your way. If you're not in LA... Well, we're sorry. Either way, spring is coming and it's time to update your nail game. We asked our staff to share their picks for nail colors. Check out these great nail looks for spring!
I love a French manicure! It's the perfect nail look for every occasion, but I'm down to mix it up for spring! Instead of the traditional style, I could totally see myself rocking the multicolored tips. I love the pastels and how it's just the right amount of color without being overbearing. - Jasmin
This nail look is so cute to me! It's a softer color, but it still adds a bit of a pop. It's somewhere between a power blue and a turquoise, which I think would look good on brown skin. I think it's fresh and clean for spring. :) - Serena
These nails have been “spotted” on several of the models from New York Fashion Week. The dotted look is fun, cute, and easy to do yourself! Expect to see much more of this style come Spring, with bright colors and Easter pastels. - Ava
These nails are so pretty! After months of winter, it's exciting to get to wear bright pink, and the gold glitter really makes them pop. - Jillian
This is a fresh, fun take on the classic french manicure. This color duo is chic yet playful, but different combos will deliver different levels of intensity. I love that it's simple enough to do at home! - Lindsey
I love this Union Jack French. With the Olympics going on, it's fun to show some national pride on your nails. - Beth
I like a little bit of a design on my nails when I'm feelin' funky. Not something over the top, with chains and jewels hanging down but I do like a bit of creativity. Hey! Your nail bed is your canvas! This look is cute but not too much for work. - Serena
I LOVE coral! It's one of those universal colors that looks good on every skin tone and it's fun! I typically keep it as a mainstay for my pedicures during the warmer months, but I know it would look just as fabulous on my hands. - Jasmin
I love this look! The classic light pink works on several different skin tones and the girly nail art is subtle enough to wear at the office. It kind of reminds me of an Easter egg -- perfect for spring! - Lindsey
The temperature is going up, the skirts are coming out and you’ve completely updated your look for summer. Don’t stop with just your wardrobe. Here are some hot new nail trends to try so you can be summer ready down to the smallest detail:
One of the biggest nail trends seen on the NYFW runway for 2013 was nude nails. From tans and browns to blushes and barely-there peaches, this look gives off a fresh polished vibe. Nude nails are also great accents to nail art; we love a basic nude manicure with glitter tips or an added pop of color. Nude nails are perfect for a versatile summer look and can look great with a summer dress or colored jeans and a tank.
Forget shine, gloss and glitter, one of the biggest trends continuing into summer is matte nails. Today’s best matte looks have a satin finish and slight sheen that creates a unique statement. There are plenty of matte polishes in every color, but you can also just as easily get the look with any number of matte top coats that will turn your favorite lacquer into matte finish. Matte colors also can serve as a great foundation for nail art that incorporates both matte and glossy polishes into one look.
Who doesn’t love a little texture? This summer, go the extra mile and take your manicure into 3-D! Add some jewels, dots, hardware or embellishment to just one nail or on the tips for a wow moment. Some of the biggest trends for the summer include the caviar manicure in a number of colors which add an instant glam to your look. You can also try a textured look with Zoya’s Pixie-Dust polishes, which give the feel of a sand-art effect, or a “velvet” polish like with Sally Hansen’s new Fuzzy Coat line in a variety of wild shades and combos. Try these textured looks with a simple accessories, so that they can take center stage.
It’s time to rethink your clear and white tipped idea of the classic French manicure. This summer, update this trend with new colors and dimensions. Play up your favorite colors by adding black tips to a colored nail, colored tips to a peach or nude nails or adding metallic tips. Or reverse the whole trend and try a half-moon manicure instead, giving a different color to the base of the nail. The combinations are endless, and we are loving them all. For summer, experiment with shades like pink and coral, blue and aqua or try an ombre effect with different color tips.
Lastly, neon is a trend that we are seeing on the runway, and across our favorite fashion blogs. Our favorite neon nail trends include pops of neon in nail art with nude and black nails as well as ombre nails including neon colors. We love this look at the pop of color with a neutral ensemble.
